How Does Acupuncture Work?

Trauma: increase blood circulation to that area, allowing for proper healing and pain relief

Stagnation: allow stuck energy (emotional or physical) to flow freely throughout the body alleviating pain or obstructions

Chronic Conditions: treat the entire body vs just relieving the symptoms, we treat the root of the cause

Acute Conditions: quickly treat and alleviate symptoms by expelling, releasing, moving or draining

FAQ

Do the acupuncture needles hurt?

With skilled and practiced gentle techniques, acupuncture should be generally painless. The needles themselves are extremely thin, sizing only 0.10mm larger than a strand of hair! In the case of orthopedic needling, when we are looking for a muscle reaction, there may be more of an intense sensation since the needle insertion will be deeper, but again, pain-free is the ultimate goal.

What does acupuncture feel like?

People describe acupuncture to be a light-tingly sensation that they can feel buzzing throughout their channels, and other times it may feel like a dull or heavy sensation surrounding the acupuncture point. All of these sensations are completely normal and something we as acupuncturists strive for – it means the body is reacting properly and will begin its healing course.

When will I feel the results?

Typically it takes a day for the treatment to really settle in. However, many people experience relief after their first session. It is highly recommended that you do acupuncture consistently in order to achieve long-lasting results.

Why is it important to do acupuncture weekly?

This is a great question! I always like to compare getting acupuncture to going to the gym. You may feel great after one session, but you definitely will not achieve the goals/results you’d like after just one session! It is important to build upon each session, this way your body will adapt and be able to retain the results.

What should I expect during my first treatment?

During your consultation, I will go over your extensive medical history and intake form with you. We will deep dive into your health goals and discuss how acupuncture can help you achieve them. I will feel your pulses on both left and right wrists, as well as take a look at your tongue, to further help my TCM diagnosis. After this, we will choose a day and time to schedule your first session where we will go over your detailed treatment plan.
