Gua Sha
Gua Sha Therapy
What is it?
Similar to cupping, Gua Sha (“gwah-sha”) is a tool-based technique used to break up and move stagnations in the body.
What is the Tool Made From?
Gua Sha tools are often made from various crystals: most commonly, Jade, Rose Quartz or Bian Stone. In ancient times, TCM cultures would do this technique using a soup spoon and this is still a useful tool to this day.
What to Expect?
Experience Gua Sha at The Healing Nest in San Diego. The session will be 30-45 minutes. It will begin with light oil massage on the area of concern. The tool is used by pressing it on the skin of the area of pain and stroking it to help circulate and move the “stuck” blood. Gua Sha can also be used to release pathogens, as cupping does, by bringing them to the surface of the skin. Many enjoy using a Gua Sha tool on the face to promote circulation, relax muscle tension, such as TMJ, and decrease the look of fine lines by leaving the face looking fuller. Gua Sha Facials are also an option here at The Healing Nest, and we offer this service during every Cosmetic Acupuncture session.
